ACUPUNCTURE

What is acupuncture?
The insertion of thin, disposable needles into the body at specific locations,
known as acupuncture points on the body that run along pathways called channels
or meridians.
How does acupuncture work?
When needles are placed at acupuncture points, the particular actions
of the points are activated. This creates increased balance to the body’s
energetic system, and thus improvement to specific health complaints,
as well as overall health.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Typically there is little to no discomfort involved, though a variety
of sensations may be felt including, most commonly a tingling sensation.
Many patients who receive treatment at Back To The Middle do not even
feel the needles go in.
Is acupuncture safe?
Acupuncture is extremely safe when performed by a licensed, competent
trained professional. All needles that are used are one time use only
and disposable.
Can I receive acupuncture if I’m already doing other therapies?
Yes you can. Acupuncture often can enhance the therapeutic effect of other
therapies that you may already be receiving, including physical therapy,
emotional therapy, chiropractry, etc.
Is there anything I need to do to prepare for an acupuncture
visit?
Not really. Just do what you would normally do in your daily life, including
bathing and eating. Many acupuncturists look at your tongue as a type
of diagnosis, so if possible do not brush your tongue on the day of your
acupuncture visit. It is also recommended that you have eaten something
within 4 hours of your acupuncture session.

CHINESE HERBALISM

|
What is Chinese Herbalism?
Chinese Herbalism is the practice of using herbs within the Chinese Materia
Medica to promote healing. Chinese herbs are generally taken in what is
called a formula (the combination of two or more herbs).
How are herbal formulas taken?
Herbal formulas can be taken as a tea, tincture, capsule or topical.
Is Herbal Medicine safe?
Herbal formulas are safe when taken as recommended by a competent practitioner.
Can I take Herbal Medicine if I am taking western drugs?
Yes you can. Before any herbal formula is administered to you, a competent
herbalist will have a full picture of your current health profile, including
any drugs, supplements or herbs that you are currently taking. The herbalist
will then use that information to provide a formula to you that does not
negatively interact with substances that you may already be taking and
instead enhances the therapeutic effect within Asian Medicine, so that
your health goals are met more quickly and on a deeper longer lasting
level.
